FASCINATING GOOGLE EARTH IMAGES OF SUNDAY BAZAR

Islamabad – In a fascinating display of transformation, Google Earth shows aerial images of Abpara Sunday Bazar before and after its renovation.

CDA doesn't have the historic archives of the sunday bazar itself. However, the google earth has shown how before the bazar's renovation, it was not  properly roofed and wasn't actually partitioned methodically.

The image from 2004 also shows how the bazar is still placed in a temporary setting. There are a series of images taken in different years, from 2004 and onwards which shows the development of the bazar in general.

As this picture shows, the Sunday Bazar has a list of things around it. One of the most important being the Lal masjid which is in the west of the bazar. While at its north there is a Naala, which became famous during the Lal masjid incident due to some rumors that the bodies of some of the insiders were thrown in the Naala.

This fascinating picture from 2007 shows how the Sunday Bazar is still being renovated. When we asked the vendors at the Bazar about the renovation issues, they said that the Bazar was closed at that time for some months. Also, at the east of the Bazar their is a hockey ground which isn't functional these days. While in the South is the residential area of G-6 and the famous Abpara Market.

This image is taken in 2014, and it shows the present condition of the Bazar. It is fully renovated and you can also see a small bridge on it rear which connects the whole the other side of the sector G-6 with the bazar.

It is interesting to note that the Bazar has extended towards the south as it goes towards the bridge at its rear from 2004 to 2014.
